COVID-19 Guidance & Updates

Updated respiratory virus recommendations

Updates as of May 22, 2024:

 

COVID-19 isolation recommendations move away from five days of isolation and instead focus on clinical symptoms to determine when to end isolation. This update applies to the public, schools, child care and most workplaces.

  • Stay home if you have COVID-19 symptoms until you have not had a fever for 24 hours without using fever reducing medication AND other COVID-19 symptoms are mild and improving.

    • If you do not have symptoms, you should follow guidance reduce exposure to others.

  • Talk to a healthcare provider to learn if you qualify for COVID-19 Treatments
  • Notify individuals you were in close contact with have them test within 3-5 days of exposure using an antigen "rapid" test. 
  • Contact your employer and be prepared to provide your positive test. Your employer may have different return-to-work requirements based on your occupation.

2023/24 k-12 School & Child Care Guidance

Updates as of October 2, 2023 

California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has developed updated K-12 school guidance for the 2023-2024 school year to support safe in-person learning. All K-12 schools in Kings County are to follow the guidance from CDPH.

Workplace Setting COVID-19 Guidance

Updates as of May 22, 2024:

​In the workplace, employers are subject to the Cal/OSHA COVID-19 Non-Emergency Regulations ​ or in some workplaces the Cal/OSHA Aerosol Transmissible Diseases (ATD) Standard (PDF) and should consult those regulations for additional applicable requirements. In certain healthcare situations or settings and other covered facilities, services and operations, surgical masks or respirators are required.​ 

COVID-19 Prevention Non-Emergency Regulations

Healthcare and Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs)

Updates as of May 22, 2024
 
According to CDPH, all healthcare settings such as acute care hospitals, psychiatric hospitals and skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), are to still follow guidance from AFL 21-08.9
 

Business Reporting Requirements 

Businesses are required to report when a worksite has three or more COVID-19 cases within a 2-week period.  These cases MUST be reported using the Shared Portal for Outbreak Reporting (SPOT). For more information visit, SPOT FAQ​, SPOT Data Collection Fields, and Shared Portal User Guide

When to Seek Care

Persons in isolation or should seek medical assistance:

  • If new symptoms develop or their symptoms worsen.

  • If the infected or exposed person is going to a medical office, emergency room, or urgent care center, the facility should be notified ahead of time that the person is infected with or has been exposed to COVID-19; the person should wear a mask for the clinical visit.

  • Any one of the following emergency warning signs signal a need to call 911 and get medical attention immediately:

    • Trouble breathing.

    • Bluish lips or face.

    • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest.

    • New confusion or inability to arouse.

    • New numbness or tingling in the extremities.

    • Other serious symptoms
